Troubleshooting Steps for No Mic Audio (All Headsets)

Updated by Kamika Royal on Oct 24, 2024

Here is a small checklist we can use to help us troubleshoot no mic audio:

Wireless Headsets

  1. Check basic set up (including computer settings and softphone settings if used with a computer)
  2. Ensure the headset is powered on and in the correct mode (telephone mode for phones, computer mode for computers, etc)
  3. Push all the cords in
  4. Ensure headset is not muted
  5. Reset the headset
  6. Try a breath test (blow into the headset's microphone to see if you can hear the sound of your own breath in the speaker)
  7. Grab a different headset part and pair it to the headset base to see if the issue follows the original headset
  8. If it does not fix the issue, it's a problem with the base or the connector cords
  9. In a pinch, the curly cord can work as a connector cord for Leitner wireless headsets to test if the problem could be the connector cord
  10. If the headset is plugged into the headset jack, move the handset and curly cord from the handset jack of the phone into the headset jack. Make a test call to see if the headset port is working in general
  11. If a lifter is in use try picking up handset and see if there is audio both ways. If the handset does not give 2 way audio then try a new connector cord. If it's still not working, it may be an issue with the headset base

Corded Headsets with QD cords

  1. Check basic set up (including computer settings if used with a computer)
  2. Ensure headset is not muted
  3. If it's a Leitner headset, check the compatibility switches on the headset cord (for help with this, give us a quick call at 1-800-432-3738)
  4. Grab a different QD cord or headset (this will let us know if it is the headset or the QD cord that is causing the issue)
  5. Make sure the end user is hitting the headset button on the telephone or lifting up the handset of the phone (depends on what their set up is)
  6. If used with a computer, make sure the softphone program's settings are pointing to the USB headset

Corded Headsets with Amplifiers

  1. Check basic set up, including compatibility on the amplifier and connections
  2. Push all cords in
  3. Make sure the end user is hitting headset button on the telephone or lifting up the handset of the phone (depends on what their set up is)
  4. Make sure the end user is hitting the headset button or talk button on the amp to route audio to headset
  5. Make sure the amplifier is not set to mute
